Srinagar, Oct 12: The ‘Ravan Dahan’ celebration is taking place at Srinagar’s SK Stadium as part of the Dussehra festivities. Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, is a significant Hindu festival celebrating the victory of good over evil. One of the main attractions of this festival is the Ravan Dahan, where effigies of Ravan, his son Meghnath, and brother Kumbhkaran are set ablaze, symbolizing the triumph of Lord Rama over Ravan.
On the auspicious occasion of Dussehra, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) President Dr Farooq Abdullah and others participated in a vibrant celebration held at the SK Stadium Srinagar.
The event commenced with a traditional Pooja conducted, honoring the cultural significance of the festival. Following the rituals, the symbolic effigy of Ravan was ignited, signifying the triumph of good over evil.
The celebration witnessed enthusiastic participation from the local community, bringing together families and friends in the spirit of joy and festivity.
People from all communities actively participated in the festival, a testament to Kashmir’s deep-rooted tradition of unity and coexistence.
Speaking on the occasion, a Kashmiri Pandit Shri Akash Razdan said, “Celebrating Dussehra in the valley beautifully reconnects us with our roots and shared traditions. It’s a powerful moment of unity and hope for all of us.” Another Kashmiri Pandit, Shri Vikas Hali, said, “Dussehra in Kashmir holds a unique and special significance.
Adequate security and traffic arrangements were put in place by the district administration to ensure a smooth and peaceful celebration.
The police, under the supervision of SP East, Syed Mubashir Bukhari, played a pivotal role in managing the large crowd and ensuring that the event passed off without any untoward incidents.
